What causes Physiological Disease?

Physiological disorders can be caused by several abiotic factors such as frost (Fig. 8.1), high temperatures, low soil pH, phytotoxicity caused by agricultural chemicals (Fig. 8.2), “melanosis” (Fig. 8.3), as well as nutritional imbalance.

What is the Physiological Process?

Physiological processes are the ways in which organ systems, organs, tissues, cells, and biomolecules work together to accomplish the complex goal of sustaining life. Physiological mechanisms are the smaller physical and chemical events that make up a larger physiological process.

Here are some examples of the Physiological disease:

1. Diabetes (inability to produce sufficient insulin, or inability to use insulin properly). Without insulin, cells cannot absorb glucose, which they need to produce energy.

2. Cancer – abnormal cells divide in an uncontrolled way. Cells multiply too much and cause tumours, also called “growths”.

3. Hypertension – high blood pressure.

4. Heart disease – a whole range of conditions including defects in heart muscles or valves and problems with heart rhythm.
